Sunday Surprises

Something has been up...we weren't sure what, but we knew there were changes happening in our screen porch. We only get to use it part of the year and that makes us want to be in it all the time. There was a lot of noise last week and strange people coming and going. It still smells a little funny. But guess what? Those awful dark screens are gone! In it's place are real windows and real doors. Mom and dad said that means we can be in there ALL year round!!!! Yay! But wait...there's more! We were locked out for a few minutes and next thing you know mom and dad are hauling in the most wonderful thing we have ever seen! We jumped on it right away!
We sniffed and inspected...
And then I started putting the bitey on the dangling toy!

And then I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to bitey or scratch...so I did both at the same time!
And then I got serious about scratching.

And then I had to bitey again!

My mom took off the toy because she only wants me to play with it when I'm supervised because she knows I will eat it!!! Ha! Isn't that the reason it's there? I've been told that we will be banned from the room in another week because they still have to paint the door and they want to put shiny stuff on the tile...but then...pure bliss!

Formerly Feral Friday

Why does mom wake me up in the middle of a good snooze to stick a camera in my face, only to get a blurry picture of me sticking out my tongue. The things that make her happy...

Well, lets move on to the things that make me and Cecilia happy. We are quite content hanging out together. When we first moved in together my mom thought it would work out between us but she couldn't' be sure. Cecilia and I have developed a very nice relationship. We still have not allowed mom to get a picture of us sleeping together. She keeps trying.

With spring in the air, we did let mom catch one tender moment...she almost missed it, but here it is...
Kiss kiss!!! A nanosecond earlier and she would have caught the whole thing! ::blush::

Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie

I know this is risky showing you this, but even hard working garden cats need a break now and then. Hanging out in the hammock is part of my reward. I'm always on the lookout for easier ways to do things. If I lay on these carrot seedlings, it will help them hatch, right? You know, sometimes I just don't feel like working that hard. This past weekend was a lot of hard work. I think I will just enjoy the garden today. The nip is getting really tall and the leaves are almost as big as my face! I think I look good sitting next to the herb bed.
There nothing like chillaxin' in the garden.
I don't want to totally ruin my reputation so I'll sit here by the baby lettuce and tomatoes just in case they need me.

Tuxie Tuesday

Ah yes, the catnip is now towering over my head. Just the way I like it. This is my first spring with my family. I heard a rumor that once the nip gets really tall, mom will cut it down and dry it!Ah yes, nip leaves the size of dinner plates! There must be some sort of trouble I can get into out here. I have absolutely no desire to help plant anything. Maybe dig things up...

There's got to be something I can get in to...Oh yes, the balance beam railing. If I could just figure out a way to launch myself up into the tree from here....watch out birdies!
Hmmm, balance beam competition in London 2012?Great, thanks mom...I hope this picture doesn't jeopardize my standing in the Silky & Slender crew!!!Does this picture make my butt look big?

Memorial Day Monday

I'm feeling in a reflective mood today. I'm thinking about what today means. I know that it means that mom and dad have an extra day off. It also means it's a day to get our garden off to it's official start. Then mom told me that it's really about being a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nations service. Wow. I had no idea.I have a lot to be thankful for!

I suppose no one will mind if I also take today to remember my family members who came before me, and our friends in the CB who have left for the Bridge this past year.

No Easy Sunday- Big Gardening Weekend

This is a big weekend at my house. Memorial Day weekend is when all the veggies and herbs go in the ground. All danger of frost is past and it's time to get digging. Mom and dad had to go to the garden center so I had some time to relax on the deck. I was curious about where they go, so I rigged up mom cam. Cory said she had success with it. When they got back I downloaded the pictures. Whoa, look at all the little plants! How does mom choose without me there?
I wish I could be there to sniff them all...
Hey wait a second...what the heck is this? Mom?! Is that why you smelled like another cat when you got home?
Oh no! He's giving me the raspberry. The nerve!! I bet he destroys the profits on their catnip...

Mom...you got some explaining to do!
Apparently his name is Mosey and he's one of the resident cats at the garden center. Mom said why would she shop somewhere where there are no cats? You got to support the businesses that have cats working there. That made sense to me. Sort of...I mean she didn't have to pet him did she?? I'm the supreme garden cat, aren't I?
See I can look cute in a box...

And I can give an upside down raspberry. Now that is talent!

Forgetful Friday- Grete's Belated Gotcha Day

You'd think it's bad enough that I have to live with 8 cats. Then I ended up being adopted on May 21st. That's a whole year plus 1 day ago. Do you think my family had that important date on their radar? No!

First it was Madison's birthday, then Ellie's birthday then Ellie and Cory had their gotcha day...and then...oops! Wasn't Grete gotcha'd sometime around this time last year? Check the calendar...oh yes, there it is. Yes. Forgotten. Long after mom helped Jonesie with her post yesterday, I was an afterthought. Below is a picture on my gotcha day...all full of hope, no awareness of the hierarchy that faced me. Low girl on the totem pole. Second fiddle to a bunch of cats. Make that 9th fiddle.
Now I must resort to sticking my nose in the camera to get noticed (as long as that flashy thing isn't on). What's a girl gotta do to get some attention around here?

It's been an interesting year. A year ago I got pulled out of a concrete kennel by this nice person. I was given the once over, I gave the woman a little lick and then they let me jump in their car. I had no idea where I was going. All I knew is it was out of that concrete place where all the dogs barked. I like it here...and I admit I like my kitty family a whole lot. Especially Cory. I like licking her.
***mom here!***
One year ago today I was at work looking at petfinder.com, continuing the daily search for that special someone since we had been dog-less since Colby left for the Bridge in March 2008. Every day it was pretty much the same thing, lots of dogs, lots of stories, but no one spoke to me. Then I saw Grete, who was known then as Gracie. Just like with Ellie, I picked up the phone within 30 seconds. I knew we had to act quickly because she was at the county pound and they don't place holds over the phone. We both took the rest of the day off work and dashed off to meet her. It was love at first sight. It's been a year of many challenges...2 elbow surgeries, a spay surgery, adjusting to 8 cats, learning to get through her rescue issues and for us learning how to communicate with her and understanding how she communicates with the movement of her magnificent ears. We are just beginning our journey together.
***ok Grete you can have this back***
Thank you to Maggy, Zoey and their human Ann for the fun gotcha day graphic!
PS. Daisy the smart and lovely and curly cat says that the problems with pages not opening and crashing is related to the "follower" widget. We are going to remove it and see if that helps.
