Society of Feline Gardeners- Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie

::meowwwww::

Welcome back to my garden!

We've been having issues with our corn this year.  For the past couple of years, the corn has been wonderful.  This year there is only one ear per stalk and they keep falling down.  Mom tried to blame the raccoons, but I think the corn might be doing it to itself.  I investigated with dad's help.

I stayed close as dad staked up the little stalks to give them a fighting chance.  It won't be long until we can eat them so we aren't giving up!

As a garden cat I know that you must be patient and give your vegetables all the help they can get.   I can't hold them up with my paws so dad has to intervene with some stakes and some string.
Meanwhile the flowers are blooming.  Our dahlia is showing off a bit.

The Japanese anemone is also starting to bloom nicely.

Figaro shows interest in the harvest from our fig tree.  Figaro thinks it's the "Figgy" tree...

He wasn't sure he wanted to eat the fig...

So dad ate it for him.  Figgy just sniffed at it.

Once our garden day was done, I joined my dad while he enjoyed a glass of wine.  He always tells me what a great garden cat I am.

This makes me purrrrr.

We hope that your corn survives. I wonder why it keeps falling over? And we love that dahlia!

That is very interesting about your corn! You are a great garden cat!!!

Alas, Texas corn and virtually everything else around here is dead from the heat and drought.

I hope your corn holds up 'til harvest - I love it buttered!

Actually I love it buttered, with the kernels already eaten off the cob by the humans. And dug out of the trash.

Hi Jonesie! My post is a bit late today as mom was busy! :sigh: But better late than neber.
Yoor Dahlia is beautiful ~ mom said her dad used to grow lots of Dahlias when she was a child ~ and they are tricky to grow.
The fig looks very yummy :slurp:

You are a great helper, Jonesie. We hope your dad gave you some nip for you to enjoy while he enjoyed that wine.

Everything sure looks nice. I don't think I've ever seen a fig before. Did you plant newtons too?

You are so lucky to be a Garden Cat!
You add a lot of beauty to it.

My People do not have a garden but we have lots of weeds and natural grasses that I like to play in, and stalk a critter or two. Or three.

Paws 'n Claws,
Rupert

TBT here: I loved all the flowers, but the corn brings back a memory. Dad had planted a 20'x30' patch of corn. I have no idea what he thought he was going to do with all that corn!

That Summer, he was out-of-state taking graduate courses. I was 12. One night, there was a terrible thunder/hail storm. Every time the lightning flashed, Mom and I saw the corn beaten down lower and lower til it was flat. The next morning, we went out and put up stakes and rope and tied all the cornstalks back up straight. It took hours.

But I still can't remember what he did with it all. We couldn't have eaten a 10th of it!

We love our fig tree. We hides under the fig tree in the shade and the birds come to eat the figs.

The dahlia is gorgeous.

Oh, Teri got excited when she read about figs and wine! We kinda think figs look like Brussel Balls, hahameow! Our Knock Out Roses got blackspot this year and didn't flower much and then something ate them! We found out we have a deer that comes around at night! Our neighbor saw it...we musta been sleepin!
