Saturday- Special Doorway

Hi there! I'm going to show you how we keep the peace around here!
I bet you are wondering how we manage to have our dear wonderful silly unruly Grete dog in a house full of kitties? I'll tell you the answer to this mystery today. The story began with our guardian angel Colby dog. When she came home it was kind of the same as when Grete came home. A big old dog walking in to a houseful of cats is quite the scene. My mom and dad wish they had a video of my first meeting with Grete. She came in the house on a leash, let out one very serious "woof" and I jumped 10 feet straight up in the air before I scrambled for cover! The solution was to use a gate we have at the top of our stairs (which isn't always in place). Daddy cut a little doorway in the big door, so us cats have a way of escaping the dog if we get tired of her. If Grete is upstairs we can go downstairs or the other way around. We hadn't used the door for many years because our Colby dog settled down and we never really wanted to get away from her. We put it back up when Grete moved in. We were almost to the point of taking it down because we all are getting along with Grete, but we are leaving it in place for when Nigel starts to mix it up in the house with everyone. Here I am looking through the door.

Peekaboo! Here I am, demonstrating how it works. There really is a little door with hinges in case we ever want to close the little door.
Don't try this at home, I'm a trained professional It's fun to play whapping paws through the little door too. It looks like a little door, but even Ginger fits through it.
After Grete goes to bed at night and she's tucked into her crate, Nigel is let out of his room to explore the house on his own. We have seen him use the little door too! Silly Nigel.

What a great door and a great solution. This is my first time visiting your blog and it is beautiful. What delightful kitties.

This acknowledgement is long overdue. You were so kind to leave a comforting comment upon my beloved Jake’s passing last month. The cat blogosphere is a wonderfully caring community, and I am honored to be a part of it. Thank you for your support during this difficult time for me. Jake’s memory will forever live in my heart and mind.

Your small door is a great idea. It made us think of Cory in Wonderland!

Thankyou so much for all your kind words about Stella, Elijah and family. Ellie, we have told Stella about you, and your experiences. You are her inspiration! We are very proud of how well she is doing.

It is very nice that your mom and dad installed that door so that kitties and woofie could live comfortably together. If we had a door like that, I know we sould constantly be playing peek-a-boo and trying to whap each other through the tiny door.

What a cool hidey hole. I have a hole cut into a cabinet door - it's where my litter box is kept.

That is so cool! We love the picture of your eyes looking through the door. Reminds us of something at Halloween, but not the scary part. We've thought of doing something like that with the bathroom door, since we like to go see Mommy and Daddy when they're on the potty, but we haven't done that so far.

That is excellent that you can get away from her! I like it.
