Happy Gotcha Day to Ellie and Cory!

Today is the 3rd anniversary of my momma Ellie's and my Gotcha Day! My momma Ellie and I were rescued from a terrible situation where we were abandoned in a trailer to fend for ourselves. My momma had 6 kittens to care for and she was starving. I was so tiny, I don't really remember the details. We were lucky to have been turned in by a nice person to United Paws, a wonderful volunteer organization that saved our lives. Here we are in a basket...you can just barely see tiny little me near my mommas chest. Below are the photos that were posted on Petfinder.com. That's how my mom found us. She was heartbroken over the loss of her sweet Maggie. Maggie had gone to the Bridge in November of 2005. Starting in January 2006, mom started her daily search on Petfinder.com. For months she looked at kitten and cat photos, read the stories. She just never felt ready to make a call or do anything until mid-April 2006. Mom did her normal log in to Petfinder.com and she saw the photos below and read the story (entire text below)...and it took her about 30 seconds to make the call that would change all of our lives.

Although my siblings were cute...mom knew instantly that she wanted to adopt my momma.

She had no idea that she'd be taking both of us home. Mom and her sister came out to visit us. The decision was made, she would be adopting my momma Ellie (then known as Libby), but she'd have to be patient until all of the kittens were weaned. Then 2 weeks after that first visit my dad came with my mom to visit us. It was at that second visit that they noticed little me. By that time all of my brothers and sisters were spoken for. They learned that no one had even called to inquire about me. Dad was smitten with me...there was no way he was going to pick up my momma in 2 weeks and leave me without my mother or my siblings....no way. They made the decision to adopt both me and my momma! They came back 2 weeks later with a cat carrier built for 2!
Here is the text of our Petfinder ad:

***What you are looking at is a miracle. Libby and her 6 nursing defenseless kittens were left behind with no food and no protection from raccoons and coyotes who wanted to make them dinner. They were rescued by a good Samaritan and turned into the program. Libby was very weak from not having any food, yet still having to provide for her family. Despite her desperate situation, Libby never lost her wonderful attitude and personality. Not only is she a wonderful mother but an ideal companion for your home, She is trusting of strangers and loving to all she meets. She will be available soon as the kittens have been weaned and she will be spayed. There are 5 seal point kittens. 3 girls and 2 boys. One of the boys looks to be lynx point. The other baby is pure black, not sure of sex yet. Although Libby and kittens won't be ready for a new home until mid may, we are putting holds on them when they are ready. If you would like to adopt or have questions, please call or email us!! **UPDATE** Libby and all siamese babies have been adopted, BUT we still have one pure black female kitten still available!!! Please bring this sweet kitten home today!!!***
Yes, that sweet kitten was me!

So thank you to Petfinder.com and most importantly to United Paws. To celebrate we are going to have a commentathon! Mom will be donating 25 cents for every comment that is left for us today to United Paws!

Happy Gotcha Day, Ellie and Cory! Reading your story made me grateful that there are good Samaritans out there along with the nasty people who would leave a cat family to fend for itself. I am so happy that you both got adopted and are living the good life now.

Happy Gotcha Day, Ellie and Cory! That story made Mom's eyes tear up. We hope that one day the good samaritans will far out-number the peoples that just throw away their pets. In fact, we hope that one day, there are none of those bad peoples.

Happy Gotcha Day! I can remember my gotcha day-it was Christmas Eve and the shelter didn't know what they were going to do with me-I was a terror! Mommy decided to give me a shot and I lived in her spare bedroom for 12 months before I decided to give living with my brother, Scamp a try. Scamp has crossed the bridge but now, Mommy has Runt and Charles living in that bedroom-she thinks we'll fight!
So, I hope you have many more years in your forever home and I hope you give your mommy and daddy nose rubs tonight to say thanks again.
