Society of Feline Gardeners- Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie

::Meowwww::

Welcome back my garden furriends!

We have had tons of rain here.  Bucketing down.  Plus it's been cold. In the 40's in the morning.  It's May for cats sake!  My plants need a bit of warmth.

So do I.

I make do with a pile of cushions that are kept  on my bench to stay out of the rain.  Dad calls me the Princess and the Pea.

Some of my furriends asked about my artichokes.  They think I'm some sort of feline gardening wonder because my plant is producing tons of artichokes.  Mom and dad have already chowed down 3 of them and there are a dozen more on the plant.   How do I do it?

Well...the big secret is that I meowed at mom and dad to put in an artichoke plant as an experiment last summer.  The big plant you see behind me has been growing and growing since last year.  It produced nothing last year.  It survived the winter and kept growing.  Now it's gifting us with lovely artichokes!

Since I was so successful with this one plant...dad went to the garden center and bought me 5 more.  As you can see I got right to work purring over them so they too will be big and strong...but they won't produce anything for us for quite some time.  Maybe next year.

So if you have planted an artichoke, don't worry if it takes some time.

So...I have to show you my flowers.

The foxgloves are everywhere!

The peonies are blooming.  They always have little ants all over them.

The Jerusalem Sage is bursting with yellow.  I love it.

Hope you are enjoying your garden.  I am going to purr that it dries out for us soon.  Mom wants to help me plant my basil this weekend.

We are looking forward to doing gardening in our yard too. Maybe we will have artichokes too.

Mom doesn't think artichokes would grow here on the beach. On the other paw, nothing really grows for Mom! She remembers Peonies from when she was a little girl and, yes, she remembers the ants!

Sorry about the cold, but at least the rain is good for the garden. I love your flowers. Our peonies have buds, but haven't bloomed yet. We have those ants on the peonies, too.

You're doing excellent work! We might just try the artichoke plant.
Maybe your Mom will post how she cooks them?

We have neighbors who moved recently and had to leave their garden behind, and... there are artichokes! My human is hoping to snag one or two before another neighbor does!

Our #1 says artichokes are yummy!

Here, foxgloves grow wild all over the countryside!

We have also been getting a lot of rain and cold weather. When will spring truly come?

Oooh! Lovely, Jonesie!! We got more stuff planted, so I need to get mum out there with the flashy box!! She's hopeless, but to be fair we've had the coldest May in 40 years, so they say! I don't remember that far back mol

I have never seen artichokes Jonesie. The foxgloves are pretty. They grow wild here in the hedges. It is cold here too and all the plants are growing very slowly.

Your garden looks very pretty, Jonesie. Mine looks pretty too - lots of beautiful, red autumn leaves to chase around.

What lovely flowers you have Jonesie. We don'ts think we'd like artichokes but mom says they are yummy. So she says she might plant one in her perennial bed. Wonder if that's the bed we sleep in? Hmmmm....

The mom plans on doing some gardening and planting this weekend. She plants lots of flowers in pots for the patio. We'll be snoopervising from the windows, of course.

If I ever get a garden area I sure hope it is at least half as pretty as yours! Have a happy weekend everyone!
