Society of Feline Gardeners- Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie

::3 paw taps::

Hi there everyone!  Welcome back to my soggy garden.  Do you know that we've had the soggiest March ever?

This is definitely making it hard to get a garden going.  The moss is thrilled, but I can't get anyone out here to help me with the real work

My claws got a good work out on this nice tree.

Hmmm...what do to now?

Looks like the rhubarb is starting to come up.  That's a good thing.  My dad loves to make rhubarb crisp and my mom loves to eat it.  I better keep a close watch on it.

Whoa...what's going on here?  Pay attention my feline garden pals...on the left of this picture is my beloved nip.  To the right is an invasive...NOT NIP plant know as lemon balm.  Some humans might like lemon balm, but if left to it's own devices...wham!  It takes over the precious nip and that's the end of the story.  Mom and dad...better rip it out now.  Do it for me.  Do it for all the cats in the neighborhood.

It's the right thing to do.

So many weeds...so little time.  A garden cats work is never done.

I sure hope you're getting sunbeams in your garden this week!  Leave a link so everyone can visit you!

Ooh! We have rhubarb questions! How much sun does your rhubarb get? Our other question is, when do we get to harvest it? We know you aren't supposed to eat it during the first year, so when can we? Ours is in a not so sunny spot currently, but we can move it...

Thanks Jonesie! Good to see you outside again. Where are all your helpers?

Mommy has a rhubarb request: Can she come over for crisp? That's one of the (very) few things she misses about the midwest. Jonesie, we'll send Mommy to pull your weeds!

Definitely the nip takes precedence.

It's been wet here but SS says we need the rain because the summer has been dry and we have already lost some plants from the heat waves that we have had.

We have never had rhubarb what does it taste like and what part of it do you eat? Inquiring kitties would like to know.

We don't need anything taking over the nip!! Which by the way, our mom says can be evasive in it's own way. Rip out the balm!!

About a hundred years ago when our mom was little, there was rhubarb growing in her yard..she and her brothers and sisters used to eat it straight from the bush (is it a rhubarb bush??). She loves rhubarb.

Yikes, get rid of that lemon balm ASAP!!! Lucky to have rhubarb in your garden, I love rhubarb crumble and rhubarb/strawberries pie....hmmmm has me thinking about summer :-) Still wet and muddy here, brown grass and even a little wet snow today!

Great looking garden Jonsie...we hope the nip will survive next to the balm plant. Weeds have taken over our yard too...waiting for a sunny day to pull them up!

Things look darn good to me Jonesie, especially since all we have are weeds!

You do have an important job there sweetie. Better crack the whip over the ooomans to get rid of the weeds.

Jonesie, your moss must REALLY like the soggy weather! Ours has been off and on soggy, but tonight and tomorrow we are getting more SNOW! It is crazynutty weather here.

Definitely you want to let that nip have space to grow without being crowded too much by the lemon balm!

We've been getting some rain this week and people are happy about it because it had been pretty dry. But the forecast is for sunshine soon! #1 has all kinds of things to plant, so we are crossing all paws!

Well Jonesie, at least you have some stuff starting to grow.

We bet that mossy tree felt interseting on your toes!

Yes, please! Save the nip!!!! It's a moral imperative!!!

I'm so happy to see you out and about in your garden, Jonesie, even if it is soggy! Though it's melting, ours is still mostly snow.

Don't worry, tomorrow is April, and then things will really pick up. And remember, if it rains that it will bring May flowers (and catnip, as long as your Dad does the weeding).

Weeding is most people's least favourite thing to do, so you kitties have to keep on top of things, like you always do, Jonesie.

That lemon balm has got to go! And replace it with more catnip!
