Society of Feline Gardeners- Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie and Figaro

Meow!  Meow it out loud.  It's ok, I've changed the super secret password.  Say it quietly now.  Shhhhh...

::purr::

Let's see a woofie try and say that!

This weekend my mom and dad tried to salvage the apples that didn't do so well this year.  They were going to press the apples into cider.  Bad news is...the apples were mostly icky...and some had bugs living in them.  Yuck.  They don't look so icky on the outside, but once mom cut them up...ick.

Figaro came by to see if he could help.  There was nothing he could do to salvage the apples.  He purred over the few drops of cider that were created from the few good apples.

Yes this was it my furry friends and Garden Society members.

As I've reminded everyone, what grows great one year, has an off year the next.  Mom and dad don't spray for bugs because they don't want me exposed to stuff like that, but after what happened with the apples...I heard dad mutter "this means war"!

I purred on him and he promised to find something organic and safe so both me and the apples will be fine.

At least our little red peppers are doing well.  They didn't get big, but they are beautiful and they tasted great.  Not that I would eat them.
Please leave a link so everyone can see what's going on in your garden this week!

Jonsie! Thanks for the new top-secret password, just in time for our first gardening post.
Have your 'Rents tried BT (bacillus thurengis--Spelling?)for worm and grubs? It's totally organic and safe. Daddy is gonna use it next year on some of his plants.

We are totally organic here an The Big Thing gets his garden stuff from Gardens Alive and Arbico.

Not that he has EVER remembered to spray the apples on time...

By the way, he says apple cider is a great liquid base for brining chicken and pork!

Greetings Jonsie and Figaro,

So very nice to meet you both and we like how Figaro is inspecting the process and looking to see if he could help with the results.

We have planted three apple trees but sadly one died and it was our favorite. Of course we are going to have to wait several more years before there will be fruit.

We had at the old house a large mature apple tree and several peach and nectarine, we miss them.

Your right, dad tells me that one year one has a bumper crop and the next only a small one. The year one has a small harvest, one needs to focus on trimming the branches for the next year.

Your peppers look real good.

Wishing you a wonderful day,
Miss Kitty and Egmont (dad)

Hi Jonesie! I'm sorry abowt the apples being yucky ~ but as yoo have proved, this can happen to even the BEST gardeners.

We're sure yoor dad will find cat/eco friendly spray ~ 'cos he's that kind of a person.

The peppers look awesome! Mom loves red peppers.

It's great to see Figaro being so helpful ~ if only Milo was so dedicated. He'd rather be cheating at conkers!!! :sigh:

Love Alfie

Oh, that's too bad about the apples. I hope there is something to take care of those bugs next year! Bugs are the bane of kitty gardeners, aren't they?

Today, it's raining at my garden :)

That was a lot of work for a little cider, Jonesie!

We have not had a good crop of pecans in 3 years. Momma is betting there will be lots this year since nobuddy is there to pick them up!

PS. freckle-y smoochies to Cory from Whitey xoxo

I'm sure your dad will fight the battle hard with the bugs and find a safe bug battler so you won't be harmed either. Darn bugs!!

Getting apples you grew off a tree is a mega achievement, even if they weren't the best. Our mum struggles just getting them home from the market :P

I hope I can remember the password!

Those nasty bugs!! Your dad hasta let you all loose in the orchard so you can eradicate (that's a $10 word!) them!!

And we love the new password...let's see Oliver try to say that one!! (But then again, we're surprised he'd say meow).

Gurrrr,Gurrrr, urrrrr, rrrrr, That is Fenris attempting to say the password. He actually (whispering purrs) pretty good for a dog.

Sorry the worms got your apples. The insects got almost all our edible plants. Mommy said we had more insects this year then she has ever seen.

Too bad about those apples. We think those peppers look beautiful though.

We are just in awe of your gardening skills and you wonderful fruits and veggies. Sorry more cider didn't come from those apples. What a neat-o process!!

That's a shame about the apples.

When The Mum picks wild berries or fruit she soaks them in salty water for two hours, rinses them, then soacks them in fresh water for a futher hour before rinsing them again. Apparently it makes the bugs come out and float to the surface.

The peppers look great! We had such weird weather here, the whole garden is doing odd things.

Sorry about the apples. We have spider mites attacking our Japanese Maple. Mom is planning to wage war on them this weekend.

Too bad about the apples. but they sure were pretty in the buckets! Those peppers look good too...are they hot?

Thanks for the code -- it should be easy for the kitties to rememPURR!

So sorry about your apple cider plans being thwarted. Perhaps Figaro could have eaten all the bugs had he known about them.

Those red peppers do look very colourful and flavourful indeed. We prefer red peppers and use them in almost everything. So, it's another job well done, Jonesie.

You can't control everything as Dante has found out. Mother Nature has the last word.

We are sorry that the apples didn't do well this year so you didn't get to have a lot of cider from them. But that is the thing with gardening - some years are good, some are bad. It was nice of Figaro to try and purr on them to be better.

And it is good that the peppers did well - they look really pretty!

Your peppers look lovely. We had lots of apples this year. The eating apples are very good but some of the cookers got bugs in them.
