Thursday in the Garden with Jonesie

Meow!

It's getting colder and yuckier outside and there is not much growing in the garden. I thought it would be fun to get my mom to experiment a bit. We have a greenhouse, and I talked my mom into trying to grow seeds in there. Not next spring, but now.

What does she have to lose? A couple of bucks worth of seeds? Isn't my entertainment and gardening curiosity worth that? We are going to try some lettuce and radishes. She got the potting mix and filled up the bins. I helped out by walking in the soil and putting little spots in the dirt where she can put the little seeds.

Technique is important. You can't walk back over it once the seeds are planted.

You can take a closer look at my paws. A garden cat can't be afraid to get her paws a little dirty.

There is no heat in the greenhouse so we just have to hope for the best. We have extra covers for the bins. If the seeds don't grow, we'll try again after the first of the year and keep trying until something grows. I heard rumor that we are getting a tree for inside the house this weekend. I can hardly wait!

Jonesie, that's brilliant abowt the seeds. I'd like a greehowse too.
Did you know that you can wrap a greehhowse with bubble wrap to insulate it, if yoo haven't got heat? Mom said it's best to buy a big business size roll of bubble wrap, 'cos it's cheaper. And if you're careful, and have somewhere to store it afterwards, yoo can re-use it year after year in Winter.

That is a good idea Jonesie. I have told mum that I would like to put some seeds in our greenhouse. She has got all our potted flowers from outdoors in there now, but I think there might be some room left.

We will be interested to see how successful you are with the greenhouse. I love the photo with the potting soil on Jonesie's white paws. She is a real gardener!

What a great idea, Jonesie! Wouldn't it be wonderful if you had something to report on in the greenhouse all winter long? You certainly have gardening in your blood.

Dante really needed your help today, but then he realized that even you, with all your exPURRtise, couldn't come to the rescue. You can't fight mother nature, so you have to go along with her.

Great idea. I hope you have a lot of sunshine to keep your inside of the greenhouse warm all the winter time long. If it works the folks will have good fresh eating all winter. Be sure to keep us posted on this.

Jonesie we hope the seeds grow in the greenhouse - that would be so cool! And it is great that you helped by putting the marks in the dirt! You look so cute in there - and the close ups of your paws with the dirt on them were super cute too! We wish we had a garden - we don't because I (the mom) can't really get anything I want to grow - we have too much shade, and I like the plants that like sun. So we get all our garden experience from you and the Garden Club members!

Jonesie, you got it all: The mulch machine, the glass house - it's just purrfect. No wonder you could become the master gardener you are! But without the green paw even those favorable circumstances wouldn't help at all...
We love your paws-on appproach!

Love those dirty tootsies!!

How exciting!! They want to build a greenhouse here too but we need a bigger garden shed first. They also want to build it with shraw bales so that may take awhile to plan! We hope you get lots of green spouts soon!!!

I did a garden post today, a day late. Better late than never I guess!

The Gray Boys dearly miss helping their Grampy in the garden, Jonesie. How wonderful that you will have in inside tree! Why, it iz almost like Christmas!

PS. Hi, Cory! xo

We like the bins you have in your greenhouse. They look nifty. We shall have to show them to Daddy. Our seeds do good in the greenhouse. Even if they don't come up right away we bets they will come up eventually. We don't have a heater in ours either. IF it gets really cold (below freezing) Daddy puts a big light in there. ~S,S,C & F

We've been wanting to try winter sowing, but the humans were too busy. Looks like a very interesting project - and you look like quite the gardener.
