They sell it in garden catalogs and it's a nice tall native plant. We think the dahlia is very pretty too. Ours always get earwigs so we quit growing them.

P.S. Our silly mom thought the Joe Pye weed was milkweed - shows what she knows!

P.P.S. We're sending many purrs to Grete and Bear-Bear's family. Our mom knows the area where this happened and she cannot believe the idiot human thought it was OK to shoot off a gun there - it is quite populated.Mishkathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14725068038095032321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5974072156810756984.post-60614313261235951562010-08-14T01:55:42.889-04:002010-08-14T01:55:42.889-04:00Jonesie, you are queen of the garden!!Jonesie, you are queen of the garden!!dArtagnan Rumblepurr/Diego Hamlet Moonfurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13292794968160988264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5974072156810756984.post-23900707892557048722010-08-14T01:03:06.477-04:002010-08-14T01:03:06.477-04:00I know!!!! Mom and Dad wish we could have pears (not the right weather here I guess), but we do have apples, cherries and plums...but no pears..or apricots or peaches. You are lucky!! Yah! Stay away from those wasps!! We actually had a hornet nest in our garden last year and those guys are REALLY SCAREY!! Wasps and hornets have our respect - big time...we don't mess with them!! You are really good about taking care of your people - both the furry ones and the non-furry ones...we admire you!! And you have a wonderful garden, too!! Mom's late father was a very keen gardener and grew beaitiful Dahlias when mom was a child ~ so mom really enjoyed see this one as it made her feel nostalgic (and smile sadly).
And the pears are fabulous! We don't have any fruit trees in our garden but mom would like some one day.
Stay away from the wasp's nest for sure ~ I got stunged again this week ~ that makes 3 times since I was borned. Mom said it was my own fault 'cos I swatted a wasp and then tried to eat it. But it was very ouchy ~ and I'd hate that to happen to yoo.
Send Grete my purrs ~ we are supporting Bear-Bear too ~ only mom can't read the story or she will be too upset (but she knows the gist of it).
Figaro is coming on nicely ~ he reminds me of me when I was a trainee kitten gardener and yoo were so patient and kind to me. I fink he will be a wonderful assistant for yoo when he has matured a bit ~ but that might take a while ...

Love Alfie xxMilo and Alfie Marshallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05968891408866473634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5974072156810756984.post-73788749021647920032010-08-12T02:47:07.794-04:002010-08-12T02:47:07.794-04:00Jonesie your garden talks are always awesome.
