Society of Feline Gardeners- Thursday in the House with Jonesie

::Meowwww::

Well my furriends, I'm still in the house.  Not only am I being safe, it's so icky and dreary and rainy and muddy I don't even want to be out there.  It's been pouring rain and it's windy and I don't think that will change any time soon.

Good thing we have holiday dinners and furriends stopping by.

Since I am responsible for growing some of the food for our feast, I'm invited as an honored dinner guest.
One of the dishes mom made for Christmas Eve dinner was a roasted beet salad.  I grew the beets myself.  From seed.  Here they are all roasted up and ready to get cut up for the salad.

Just yesterday dad went out in the muddy garden and harvested the rest of our carrots.  Yes, I grew these myself as well.  From seed.  Here they are all roasted up and  yummy.  Mom even put some of them in a lentil soup.

Mom and I ordered the seed from Renee's Garden Seeds and since they did so well, we'll be ordering more in 2012.  And if they sound familiar, this is the wonderful place that Raymond and Busby's mom works.
And what's even cooler, if you order seeds from them, and use code FR227A Renee's seeds will give 25% of the order to United Paws!

They are awesome in supporting lots of charitable organizations.  You can get your seeds AND help kitties in need.  How cool is that?

Huzzah! So glad you had success with Renee's seeds, Jonesie. Also, can you please send some rain to us in Santa Cruz? We need it. XO

Jonesie, we can see your expert gardening skills have come through again!

We are always impressed by your gardening skills, Jonesie. We two are a bit bad at raising plants from seeds, but it could be our growing conditions too. The roasted beets look great, mom says. She would like to know if your mom cooked them first and then roasted them in the oven or if they went in raw...? And she suggests to actually try them raw if you didn't already, they are 'licious. Moms!
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Our best wishes for a fabulous 2012!

We are showing our tree this week as the Mom hasn't taken any gardening pictures (hiss).

Mommy is drooling over the lentil soup with carrots in it. She has a sore throat and says that would be just the thing for it.

you are an expert, master gardner for sure. It's nice to see you still getting a little produce from it too. Pretty soon you can start planning next year's garden.

That looks delicious. I am not sure we will have a food garden this year, although the Woman is hopeful for having something put in for that, perhaps under the picture window in the living room out back. That will have lots of light. You know, I might have to join in on Thursday gardening now that there is sort of a garden around my house!

My Human is drooling because she loves loves loves BEETS! Me, not so much, MOL!

That is totally cool that they give 25% to poodins! We are so glad that you help grow your beans food. They wouldn't be able to do it without your help.

Hi Jonesie, thanks for the tips on prepairing the roasted beets. Please get your mom to try them raw asap, our mom claims they are a "revelation". Obviously they are a bit messy to peel though. Looking at your post again makes us hungry.

We would love to have something grow from seed into something beautiful / edible. But with Mommy's hands of death when it comes to anything that
involves the sun, water and earth, we think we'll have to stick with getting the veggies from the grocers.

You deserve to be at the dinner table, Jonesie -- in fact you deserve to be the pet of honour! If not for you, no one would be enjoying these marvelous fruits of your laPURR!

Well done!

Sounds like we are getting the same sort of weather as you. You have done a very good job of growing the veggies for your family.

Jonsie, Mommy detests beets...but roasting them does sound intriguing...for HER that is!

My mommie is jealous. She tried to grow a garden once, but between the Texas heat and her black thumb, after a whole season she had about two tomatoes and six beans.

It's such an awesome job you do there!
